How does anyone here "know" that Joepa swept anything under the rug!? There is zero evidence out that proves that he covered up anything. we don't know exactly what he was told by Mcqueary and the incident was reported to campus police...and yes they are "real" cops who have jurisdiction over campus crime.
“Where do the Penn State University Police have police powers? University Police have police powers in their primary jurisdiction, which is defined as any grounds (property owned, controlled, leased, or managed by Penn State University) or within 500 yards of the grounds. University Police are also entered into mutual aid agreements with all surrounding police jurisdictions and may respond to police calls when requested to do so.”
Campus incidents are turned over to campus police, and investigations move forward from there…
"Let's stop here to consider enraged demands that Paterno should have contacted "the police" about the allegation. He did contact police. Schultz headed the campus police force, which has as much authority as any other police force.
Info on Schultz…”As the senior vice president for finance and business — which gives him oversight of university police — Schultz, 62, has been charged with covering up abuse allegations. He served as Penn State's senior vice president and treasurer from 1993 to 2009, when he retired. Schultz returned to the same job in 2011, on a temporary basis.
“The meeting he had was with his boss and the DE FACTO POLICE COMMISSIONER!!!!!! Also, he did not witness the incident, therefore the police wouldn't be able to act on his information. Why is that so hard for people to understand? There was NOTHING else he could have done. If he contacts an outside police force, what would they have done? The answer is nothing, because they couldn't (he didn't witness the crime, therefore his statement would be hearsay). And, like I said before, this occurred on campus, and therefore was under their jurisdiction...”
“And what about Joepa allowing Sandusky back on campus?... He was afforded that access by the board of trustees (who made the decision to fire Paterno) and the athletic director through his retirement package (who by the way are Paterno's bosses and make the rules, not Paterno). How do you suppose Joe prevents him? Should he stand in front of the center with a machine gun? Also, how do you know he didn't follow up? There is not a single source out there able to say he didn't stop Curley or Schultz in passing and say- "hey, what's up with that?" Yet, you, like the rest of the uniformed individuals in the majority of the media have chosen to take this assumption at face value. And the Second MILE had NOTHING to do with Paterno or Penn State. Why lay this at Paterno's feet instead of the director of the Second Mile? Because Paterno is a convenient scapegoat…”
What sandusky allegedly did is beyond reprehensible...I am not defending any of the atrocities that most likely have been committed. I am just trying to get people to stop and read some of the facts that are out there...it could turn out that joepa did sweep this under the rug and that would be outrageous to say the least. Facts need to come out and questions need to be answered before people call for the head of a man that built PSU to what it is today. Joepa has done more for others then most of us could dream about in a lifetime. He has donated millions to both the university and multiple charities, and has been a mentor to countless others…
This is from my dear friend, Seth Lowe:
